Evening Programs

Evening programs, which are planned by the program directors for thier respective camps, happen every night after dinner and are planned around the week's theme (ex: African Safari or Time Travel Train). They are a special time for the whole camp to come together and play. Each program ends with a friendship circle where all the campers and staff hold hands in a big circle and sing a goodnight song. The programs vary from week and to week and are different in each camp, tailored to meet the campers' needs.

The Pool Party
The pool party consisits of a bunch of water games, played in and out of the camp pool, and ends with a long free swim period. On occasion, a huge water slide is set up on the hill outside the pool fence. The friendship circle is done in the pool.

Joint Night
Joint night is the night when Sertoma and Hope join together to do the evening program. Each Hope cabin is assigned a Sertoma buddy cabin and each Hope camper a Sertoma buddy. Its a really special experience to see these very different people come together and learn from one another. There are usually stations to go to where fun stuff happens. This year, there was even a helicoptor at one joint night!

Skits & Barges
The last night of camp is skit night. Each cabin has created a skit and they perform it for the rest of their camp. In between the skits, there is singing and celebrating. After each skit, the counselors for that cabin present each camper with a special, homemade award. After the skits, the barges ceremony ensues. In camp Hope, the barges legend is read and then "indians" canoe in in a boat and light a bonfire. Each camper has a little candle boat that they light from the fire and float into the lake. Then there is a sharing circle where anyone can tell how they feel about the week. Camp Sertoma begins with a sharing circle where everyone shares one thing about their week. Then, cabins leave one at a time to light their barges and float them out on the lake.
