Staff Skit
Each camp staff (Sertoma and Hope) invents a skit during staff training.
This skit is used as an introduction to the campers each week on Sunday
arrival and a way to say goodbye each Saturday at the parents program.
It is also a way for the parents at the program to get some idea about
who the counselors are and the kinds of things that they do at camp each
week. This year, Hope's skit involved rescuing dreams of camp from a
dream catcher, who was invited to come to Camp Hope and find his own
dreams. Sertoma's skit was about a dream a camper has the night before
camp about all the activities to come and a dream catcher who turns out
to be Norman, the camp director. This year's theme was capturing dreams.
Parent's Program
The parents program happens each Saturday right before pick up. In camp
Hope, the staff performs their skits and selected cabin groups perform
their skits from the night before. In between, the group sings lots of
songs that they've learned during the week. The camp staff is introduced
and a few campers from each cabin share their favorite camp experience
with the group. The whole thing ends with a huge friendship circle:
parents, campers and staff.
In camp Sertoma, Sertomans bring lunch for the campers they have sponsered
and the counselors. After lunch, the counselors perform their staff skit
and selected cabin group perform their skits. The staff is introduced and
they all talk a little bit about the events of the past week. Then campers,
staff and Sertomans go back to the camp area and tearfully load up. The
counselors wave at the campers as they drive down camp road, until they are
out of sight.
