Counselor Stuff

Just in case you're interested in being a counselor, here are a few things you should know. Counselors arrive early in the summer for training. During specialist training, the specialists clean out their areas and prepare them for a summer's worth of use. During staff training, the staff learns about and experiences all the activities that will be happening during camp.

Each week, the staff are assigned cabins, campers and co-workers for the next week. Each staff member reads and takes notes on the campers they will be meeting the next week so that they can better fit the campers' needs. On Friday afternoon, there is a specialists meeting during rest hour. Specialists are informed of any important information and share their ideas and concerns with the program staff and camp directors. On Friday evening, there is a meeting for the rest of the staff after light's out. The staff share their ideas and concerns and scheduale the activities for their cabin the following week.

Each staff member shares in the duties of rest duty (during rest hour) and night duty (after light's out). The jobs rotate in each cabin each week. Counselors get a morning, an afternoon and an evening off each week when they can leave camp. They can also leave camp during night duty on night's that they do not have duty. Light's out for counselors is 12:00 and they have to be awake and ready by 7:15 am.

After the campers leave each Saturday, counselors clean that week's cabins and move their stuff to their next week's cabins. They also make name tags for the next batch of campers and banners to greet the next batch of campers. Then they're free until the next day (Sunday) at 1:00, when there is a staff meeting before camper greeting starts.
